- Description
Una Mistura is a striking example of Ryūichi Kakurezaki’s sculptural approach to the tea bowl, merging bold form with the subtle unpredictability of wood firing. Built with his signature angular, hand-modeled construction, the vessel presents a soft square body whose surfaces shift between deep indigo tones and earthy browns.
Brushed black clay contributes to the dark, layered surface, while firing in an anagama kiln introduces further variation through prolonged exposure to flame, ash, and intense heat. A dramatic, glossy deposit of natural ash glaze pools across one face, recording the atmospheric conditions of the firing. The interior retains a dark, burnished texture that contrasts with the rugged exterior, emphasizing the tension between refinement and raw materiality that defines Kakurezaki’s work.
