YOSHIKAWA Masamichi

Masamichi Yoshikawa is a Japanese ceramic artist whose works bridge Japanese traditions with contemporary global aesthetics. Trained in design and interior architecture, he settled in Tokoname in 1969, one of Japan’s historic six ancient kilns.
While inspired by the quiet beauty of traditional vessels, Yoshikawa’s work reflects a broader dialogue with European art and architecture, shaped by early encounters with Turner’s landscapes and medieval castles. His practice balances refined utility with sculptural presence, often realized through minimalist porcelain cubes and plates whose subtle irregularities embody his belief that beauty emerges through imperfection.
Yoshikawa’s works have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
