- Description
This Black Tea Bowl’s form and surface emerge through direct engagement with fire and clay. Compact and cylindrical, the bowl rises with a subtly irregular rim that resists symmetry, inviting the hand and eye to move slowly around its circumference. The surface is mottled and irregular, shifting from dense, light-absorbing black glaze to rust-brown passages and areas of thin or exposed clay. Speckling, flashing, and scorched tonal variations register the intensity of the firing process, giving the bowl a weathered, almost geological presence.
Three rounded protrusions interrupt the vessel’s wall, introducing tactile rhythm and quiet tension. Rather than decorative, the surface records action, heat, and restraint, resulting in a tea bowl that feels both elemental and resolutely contemporary.
