- Description
This Gen’emon kiln-fired Chawan exemplifies the artist’s uncompromising approach to form, material, and firing. Handbuilt (tezukuri) rather than wheel-thrown, the bowl rises with a quiet, cylindrical presence, its subtly faceted walls bearing the direct imprint of the artist’s hands.
The surface is animated by a pale ash glaze that pools and thins unevenly, revealing iron-rich clay beneath and recording the intensity of the firing. Darkened flashes, granular textures, and areas of exposed clay speak to prolonged exposure to heat within the Gen’emon kiln, where chance and control remain in deliberate tension.
Inside, the mikomi is softly luminous, with natural variations that draw the eye inward during use. This tactile tea bowl reflects Tsujimura’s deep engagement with ancient ceramic traditions while asserting a resolutely contemporary sense of presence, weight, and authenticity.
