- Description
Shiro Tsujimura’s Oribe Kuro Chawan reveals the artist’s signature blend of spontaneity, material sensitivity, and sculptural presence. Formed by hand into a soft, subtly off-center oval, its deep black glaze (enriched with flashes of reddish-brown from the intensity of the kiln) accentuates the bowl’s fluid contours and the raised band encircling its midsection. These tonal shifts evoke geological strata as well as the glow of embers beneath ash. The interior surface, smooth yet finely textured, gathers light in quiet concentric swirls, while the exterior bears the varied markings of heat, flame, and touch. A compact, unglazed foot offers grounding contrast and emphasizes the vessel’s origins.
