- Description
Shiro Tsujimura’s Oribe Kuro Chawan is a compelling study in restraint, texture, and the expressive possibilities of black glaze. Hand-formed with Tsujimura’s characteristic directness, the bowl’s slightly compressed silhouette and irregular lip create a sense of organic movement, as though shaped by natural forces rather than strict geometry. The surface is coated in a deep, velvety black glaze that subtly reveals the underlying clay through fine speckling and traces of kiln variation. A raised band encircles the middle, adding structure and visual rhythm while emphasizing the vessel’s tactile qualities. Inside, the glaze pools into soft concentric rings that guide the eye toward the center, enhancing the bowl’s meditative presence.
