- Description
Stellar Dance is a luminous mixed-media wall work that transforms everyday industrial materials into a cosmic field of motion and connection. Trained in traditional urushi lacquering at Kyoto City University of Arts, Ishizuka began engaging contemporary art by pushing lacquer beyond conventional decoration, replacing mother-of-pearl inlay with cutter blades, staples, washers, needles, and wire embedded directly into the surface.
In Stellar Dance, these humble elements form constellations and starbursts that hover between drawing and relief. Polished to a mirror-like gloss, the urushi surface acts as a reflective membrane, folding surrounding light and space into the work itself. Ishizuka conceives form not as fixed volume, but as a layered interface, where surface, depth, perception, and reflection coexist, allowing the piece to perceptively shift between two and three dimensions with energized, celestial rhythms.
