- Description
Authenticated as a work by Chōjirō by Zuiryūsai V (1650–1691) of Omotesenke, this masterpiece radiates a quiet yet powerful presence, embodying the wabi ideal of humble simplicity and contemplative stillness. Its dry, matte glaze creates a subdued, tactile surface, while the bowl’s interior bears a subtle brown patina from centuries of use. Rooted in the aesthetics and philosophy of wabi-cha championed by Sen Rikyū, under whose guidance Chōjirō crafted vessels that expressed the essence of his master’s vision, the bowl stands as a profound embodiment of this enduring tradition.
This bowl was given the name Musashino by Hōunsai XV of Urasenke, the 15th generation Grand Master of Urasenke, a prominent school of Japanese tea ceremony.
